scaling back the cut jeans

Here's another non-cycling post for ALB! Yes, I'm still on a break until tomorrow, where (thankfully) I have a spin class. I'm probably going to ride to work after. I've got a lot to catch up on.
I made a few really exciting purchases today. At least exciting for me. First I absolutely needed a new pair of jeans. I'm going to save the story for my 170 post, which should be coming up very soon. I'll just say that I'm really excited about wearing them tomorrow. Sheesh, I'm starting to sound like a girl!
After that I made a trip to Kitchen Stuff Plus to grab a food scale. Of course I got the digital model, which seems fairly accurate. I think it goes down to the gram, maybe two. Not accurate enough to become a weed dealer, but it's good enough for food. It does a great job at figuring the proper calorie amounts of food I've been eating. When I got home I realized how far off my guesstimates have been. I think I've been eating a lot more than I've accounted for.
I also grabbed my first real knife. It's a
Henckels Professional "S" Chef's Knife. It was a fairly random purchase. I've wanted a real knife for a long time, but I haven't been able to justify spending actual money on an actual knife. My chef's knife was starting to feel like I was cutting with a 2x4, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I looked at the 4-star model, which was priced almost the same. The Professional "S" seemed to be weighted a little better and had a sharper, more defined handle. It's easier to feel how it's situated.
I couldn't believe how good that knife felt when I got home. I grabbed some fresh tomatoes and I couldn't believe how easily the knife slid through. It's just amazing. I never would have appreciated how good it is unless I had the crappy knife before though. I'm going to have to take pretty good care of this. It already doesn't fit into my knife block. There's something else I'll need to grab...
Well wonders never cease! But I have to ask what is with guys and their knives? I realize Henckel makes a world-class knife, one that makes slicing through tomatoes, or a tin can like slicing warm butter. I just can't for the life of me get all "excited" over this phenomenon. Must be my lacking in the gene that gets men excited about contact sports, cars and video games.I'm more excited about the fact that you seem to know your way around a kitchen...or maybe you just enjoy wielding the knife;)
I guess it must be a guy thing. I thought everyone was into knives and cutting things. It feels really good to have that much power in your hands. Knives, guns, steering wheels... who doesn't get off when they've got one in their hand? Jeez, you're making me talk about my hands a lot, eh? ;)
I'm not really all that handy around the kitchen yet. When I started using it I was a little too ambitious and thought the only things worth making were completely from scratch (like I grew up with). So I got tired of all the prep work and mess and stopped cooking.
Now I'm starting to realize that it's okay to cheat a little bit, and it's fine to eat simple things. Looking at my brother's body builder mags I probably don't make stuff much differently than that. A chicken breast with maybe some type of sauce, some rice and steamed vegetables. Really really basic. But it's great because they're simple and easy.
Hrm... that was a novel.
You grew up with your mom's cooking didn't you? O Ma Gawed...you must be Italian or Greek or heaven forbid Croatian, tho judging from the pics, I would think your safe from that one. If your interested in picking up additional skills in the culinary arts, pick up a copy of Men's Health Mag, lots of guy-friendly recipies to be had. And for the record, I'm not the one making ya talk about your hands, you're doing a fine job of that all on your own...I'm merely reading btw the lines my friend:)
LOL! Should I be happy that I'm not Croatian?
You know I've always shyed away from Men's Heath. I'm sure it's pretty good, my bro reads it all the time. But he reads those body builder magazines too, which to me are like one step away from gay pr0n. I've grouped them in together.
Maybe I'll try the mag out when I'm at home alone sometime. It can't be all that bad if everyone else is doing it... It could be handy. ;)
Yes, be happy you're not a Croat..they're all crazy...I know, it's a fact, trust me, and we'll leave it at that. Men's Health is a fabulous magazine and nothing like bodybuilder mags at all. It's actually got a really good mix of health/sport/life for men. I subscribe to it's counterpart (Women's Health) and LOVE IT so much more than Self or Shape which I used to purchase religiously. I've given Men's Health as gifts to the guys in my family/life, so let me assure you, it's not porn:) As for it's usefulness while at home alone, Maxium would be my pick for straight guys--which I believe is the category you fall in--but then again, you seem to be little edgy;)
Jeez... edgy? I didn't think I brought any of that with me to my online persona!
